Our Mission Statement

The object of the Society shall be the discovery, collection, preservation, and publication of that history, historical records, and data of and relating to the portion of the State of New York formerly known as Tryon and later Herkimer County; the collection and preservation of books, newspapers, pamphlets, maps, genealogies, portraits, paintings, relics, manuscripts, letters, journals, surveys, field books and all other materials, which may establish or illustrate such history or the growth and progress of population, wealth, education, agriculture, arts, manufactures and commerce in Herkimer County.  The Society may maintain a museum for the display and storage of historical artifacts.

The Eckler building (research room and gift shop) and The Suiter House Museum are open:

Monday – Friday

10am – 4pm

There are Saturday & Sunday appointments by special request only.

We are closed on most Federal Holidays. Please call to see if we are open or are available by appointment.

ONLINE SERVICES: Research inquiries can be made by emailing the Society at herkimerhistoryresearch@yahoo.com. Members can request research for free.

We charge a $30 fee for non-members.

Books and other Merchandise can also be purchased online by visiting our Gift Shop page.

DONATE YOUR BOTTLES AND CANS AT THE MOHAWK VALLEY REDEMPTION CENTER IN ILION!

The Herkimer County Historical Society is now signed up at the Mohawk Valley Redemption Center in Ilion (401 E. Main Street) to receive the proceeds from bottles and cans with a deposit. Tell them it is for the “Herkimer County Historical Society” when you drop them off.

To check the hours at the Mohawk Valley Redemption Center, visit their Facebook page and click “About” and it will tell you if they are open that day and the hours.
