by Lieutenant L. N. Chapin – reprinted by the Captain Henry Galpin Civil War Roundtable of Little Falls
A history of Herkimer County’s 34th New York Regiment of Volunteer Infantry who answered Abraham Lincoln’s call to arm sin April of 1861. For two long years, they endured the privation of the field and the terror of battle – burying their comrades in the soil of Fair Oaks, Glendale, Malvern Hill, Antietam and Fredericksburg. Many years later, the remaining veterans of the “old 34th” finally committed their deeds to paper, so that future generations would know them.
