Description

The Kuyahoora Valley is located in central New York. The four towns represented by the Kuyahoora Historical Society are Fairfield, Norway, Newport, and Russia. The women in this book have all passed on and their works are now a part of history; from pioneer days to the recent past. Some have been briefly mentioned in other histories. Some were found in old newspapers. Some were suggested by local residents and some were remembered by those contributing to the book. We hope the reader enjoys these stories of local women representative of many more in the Kuyahoora Valley. Some of these women toiled to raise families, found adventure in foreign lands, or kept community activities and organizations functioning through good times and bad. A few of the names that appear in the book are: Bowen, Waterman, Pomeroy, Wooster, Jenkins,Hoose, Dygert, Hawkins, Moody, Foss, Coyle, Morey, Autenrith, Maxwell, Pierson, Workman, Carney, Helmer, Primeau, and many more. The book has 320 pages with vintage photos, and an index.
